Post Nam Phan Fight Interview by Mick Chanthaseth
MC: Hey Nam, I wasn’t at the fight, but I heard you got your ass beat. Explain!
NP: Well Mick, I wouldn’t say I got my ass beat, per say, but I definitely take my hat off to Josh Thomson, and I for sure lost that fight. Pretty much what happened was that he pushed the pace more than I did. I got out hustled, and Josh won the decision fair and square.
MC: He looked a lot buffer than you, how was strength a factor in this fight?
NP: Yes, I agree. He definitely had a lot better beach muscle than I did but to be honest, I didn’t feel that he was that strong. His strength did not bother me so much during the fight. I must say one thing, I felt really embarrassed standing next to the dude at the weigh in and he was ripped and I was chubby.MC: But didn’t you have the conditioning factor over him?
NP: Yes Mick, I agree, even though I did not have a “stud-ly” body, I felt that my conditioning was better than his; therefore, it gave me a chance to be the aggressor during the 2nd and 3rd round.
MC: Would you ever call him out again?
NP: Well Mick, first of all, I never even called him out the first time. So I’m not the kind of person that would call him out the second time, but for sure I would like a rematch, and I’ll do my best to finish the fight.
MC: This was your first time in Strike Force; how different is it from KOTC?
NP: Well, I think the difference is Strike Force is a little more strict with the rules because, it is a California sanctioned show so there are commissioned guys everywhere watching the fighters to see if they are doing anything illegal. In KOTC, I miss it very much, you can just go in there and do whatever the heck you want because it is on Indian Reservation, and they are not bound by the California state athletics.
MC: Is there anything you would like to say to fans?
NP: Yes, I would like to say thank you to all the people that have been supporting me all these years, and have been sending me all those nice emails even after my lost. To all my Vietnamese brothers that sent me all that hate mail, I just want to say, even though you don’t like me, you guys will always be my brothers and I will continue to represent our people to the best of my ability whether you like me or not.
MC: Shout outs to sponsors?
NP: Yes, I would like to say thank you to Jeremy Williams and Team APEX, Art James and Team Punchout, The whole MADU family, TAPOUT,
KNOXX mma gear, vietcircles.com, American First Mortgage, and budovideos.com.
MC: Ok Nam, Thanks very much for the interview. Maybe next time you’ll get em eh?
NP: Yes Mick, Always a pleasure and I promise to do my best next time okay? Eh.

Pre-Fight StrikeForce Triple Threat December 8th Interview by Mick Chanthaseth
MC: First is first. Are you ready?
NP: Well Mick, this is going to be the biggest and toughtest fight of my career. I have been traning very hard for this fight and I think I am ready as I'll ever be for Josh Thomson.
MC: What do you know about your opponent?
NP: Well, I know that he wrestled at Stanford. He trains with Javier Mendez at AKA for his kickboxing and he trains with David Camarillo for his Jiu Jitsu, and he's about 5'10" or 5'11" so he's pretty tall and he looks pretty heavy, he probably walks around at 180 or so.
MC: He sounds like he fights just like you do? Do you anticipate that this fight will be stand up or on the ground?
NP: Yes I agree, Josh a very well rounded fighter, he can fight standing or on the ground, I don't know this fight is going to go. Josh is a very talented fighter; therefore, I think this fight will be very unpredictable.
MC: How do feel about fighting so far away from home, without the fans?
NP: Well for sure I will definately miss the support from my So Cal brothers and sisters, but I think my Nor Cal supporters got my back as well.
MC: How would somebody get tickets to see you fight?
NP: I think the best way is to call Peter Malik for tickets and be sure to tell him that you're with Nam Phan and I'm sure that he'll work out some deal with you.
MC: What's the number?
NP: His number is (408) 603-6655
MC: Okay, Good LUCK Nam, Thank You for your time!
NP: Always a pleasure!
