Anaheim Convention Center Nam Phan Vs Shad Smith Oct 6th

Joey Santana: Hey Nam, how have you been buddy? How was your labor day
weekend?

Nam Phan : I have been great buddy, thanks for asking. My labor day weekend
was great.

JS: I heard you are no longer fighting at the Playboy Mansion, what
happened?

NP: I gave the Playboy fight to my good friend, teammate and trainer Adam
Lynn because i wanted to fight in front of home crowd in Orange County.

JS: Your next fight will be October 6th, in Anaheim? I bet your looking
forward to fighting in front of your home town crowd!

NP: Yeah i am really excited because i have never fought in Orange County
before and now all the people that support me can come watch me fight with
like ten minute drive, instead of like driving for like an hour.

JS: What do you know about your opponent, Shad Smith?

NP: I don't know too much about him, but i have seen him fight before and he
looks like a very game opponent. He doesn't seem to be scared to mix it up
with someone.

JS: How important is this fight to your career? You are coming off two
losses. Both those losses where against two of the best 155 pounders in the
world, and one of them was a very early stoppage.. but 3 losses would be
hard to bounce back from.

NP: Yes, this fight is very important for me to win because like you said i
am coming off two loses and that is not good for me mentally. I will do my
best.

JS: I would not bet against you, ever. Anyway, you are fighting at the
Extreme Fighters World Championship. I have never heard of this organzation,
could you tell us more about them?

NP: They're a fairly new organization. This is going to be my first fight
with them, so don't know really too much about them.

JS: Random questions: Rampage or Hendo?

NP: I say Rampage

JS: Cro Cop or Kongo?

NP: Cro cop

JS: Alright Nam, I have some questions a few fans would like to ask you,
first off Luis Cruz, who said whats up, asks: "whats next for your MMA and
boxing career?"

NP: Please, tell Luis that i said hi. Well as for MMA I am just trying to
focus on my fight on Oct 6th. As for boxing, i won't have anymore boxing
fights until 2008.

JS: Another question was: how did K-1 handle the early stoppage after you
fought JZ? What did K-1 say to you? Did they offer you a rematch or did they
just give you the cold shoulder?

NP: Well after my K-1 fight they called me and ask me to fight Kid Yamamoto
for the next K-1 fight in Japan. I turned the fight down because I thought I
needed a little bit of an easier fight after my two losses. I didn't want a
third lose on my conscience.

JS: The final question, do you plan on fighting at 145 in the future? What
if WEC sent you a really interesting offer?

NP: Well, I really don't plan on fighting under 155 because i really don't
like to cut weight. I like fighting at 155 because I can still enjoy my
life. If I were to fight at 145, I would be really miserable. If i were to
go down to a lower weight class, I would really have to be paid a good
amount of money. but still, I am not really interested in dropping weight.

JS: Alright Nam, I have a question for you. I am sure there have been many
people who have helped you out, but has there been one or two who, wells
lets just say if they where not there maybe you would not be a pro fighter
today?

NP: Well, first i would like to thank Franco De Camargo because he was my
first jiu jitsu teacher and i learned a lot from him, Art James my boxing
coach because he brought my hands to a whole new level, finally Jeremy
Williams because he taught me how to enjoy competition.

JS: Do you have any information on how/when your fans could get tickets to
your next fight? I hope too see the house full of Nam Phan t shirts!

NP: Yes people that want to get tickets can get tickets from Ticketmaster or
at the event. Yes, people can also purchase a Nam Phan t-shirt at my website
at www.iamnam.com.

JS: Nam, as always its been awesome.. good luck with your next fight! I will
be there for sure! Would you like to give and thank yous or shout outs?

NP: Yes i would like to thank my coaches from Subfighter: Rick Estrada, Russ
Muira, Adam Lynn, my muai-thai coach Fumi Fujimoto, and my boxing coaches
Art James and Dennis Gonzales. My sponsors Budovideos.com, Toe2Toe, and
Tapout.
